The Festival is here at last! Months of planning, drama, tears and tantrums finally came together at the launch party on board Cruz on Thursday night. Performers, sponsors, supporters and volunteers were entertained with music by Little Pebble, Kat Healy, Super Civilian and Allaidh Modhan. Greetings and thanks were delivered by Gordon Munro, Chairman of the Board, who declared the festivities well and truly open.

And don't forget, the Gala Day and Parade will take place on Leith Links on Saturday 13th June, with entertainment for all the family and music from Leith FM and Messenger.

The Best Of The Festival
The Best Of The Festival
Friday saw the start of various free exhibitions around Leith. The Leith Festival Art Expo had 200 people come through the doors of St Margaret's House (by Meadowbank Stadium) for the launch. This fantastic space has been filled with a variety of work from local artists and includes some excellent pieces created by ex-offenders at Apex Scotland. The Leith Sessions kicked off at the Granary at night with the sounds of Svengali, Smoking Sundays and the Arkanes, whilst comedy on board Cruz proved to pull the crowds.

On Saturday, Bollywood Unlimited sold out at South Leith Parish Church, proving that Leith wants to get dancing! Oasis inspired Frantic Chant kicked of the evening’s gig at the Granary, followed by White Heath who once again wowed the crowds with their wonderful mixture of drums, trumpet, fiddle and keyboards, coupled with soulful vocals. They were followed by the outstanding Delta Mainline, who got Leith jumping to their rocking beats.

Ocean Terminal hosts a variety of events for children and exhibitions for all. On the top floor of the shopping mall The Leither's own Ryan McGoverne displays his awe-inducing photos of burlesque showgirls and music heroes. Local children's artworks also appear on the top floor. Primary Pot-Pourri is a large collection of mixed media work from Leith's Primary Schools and Our Burma is an immensely moving exhibition of black and white etchings depicting life under a military regime, produced by five Edinburgh schools in partnership with three Burmese refugee schools. On the ground floor, Arran Ross displays his sometimes sad, sometimes scary, wooden astronauts and outside at the weekends, he chainsaws one into life.
Sunday saw the Leith Tattoo take place without rain! A sunny evening at the Shore was filled with pipes and drums, bugles and dancers and a crowd of locals and tourists from the furthest corners of the globe.
